Travel writing is a highly competitive industry and a dream job for many. But it can be hard to know where to start, and how to get your foot in the door. But when broken down, it is essentially a two-step process: pitching & writing. While I can't help you be a better writer, I can help you with the first step: pitching.

2020 was a rough year for travel, with the industry essentially grinding to a halt. So it may seem like a strange time to start this newsletter, but with predictions of a travel revival in 2021 and 2022, my hope is that there will be a lot more opportunities for freelance travel writers in the future.

Sign up for my newsletter every Monday to receive travel writing pitch call-outs I find from various sources around the globe, as well as a few jobs and tips about how to nail your pitch.

Eventually, I’ll set up a premium subscription model so you don’t have to wait until Monday, as I will post the pitches as soon as I find them as post. This way, you can go to the top of the queue and get commissioned quicker. But, that’s a future plan!

A note on international work: Most publications will accept writers from around the globe, so don't be afraid to pitch to any publication, not just those local to you. I myself am a freelance travel writer from Australia, currently based in Germany, so I write for any and everyone!

I have been writing about travel, life abroad, and sustainability since 2018, and I have been published in BBC Travel, Lonely Planet, Matador Network, NZ Herald, International Living, Business Insider, and many more, all thanks to pitching winning ideas. I am a University trained journalist and a recent graduate of the Australian Writers’ Centre.

Why I started this: I have a big dream of starting my own sustainable travel publication, so all funds raised here will help support that project.

Best of luck!

And remember: travel + write, travel + write.
